Det franska inflytandet på 1700-talets Sverige var omfattande. Hovet och samhällseliten anammade språket, mode och manér. Kung Gustav III:s frankofili inspirerade också Sveriges neoklassiska gustavianska möbler och arkitekturstil. Fransk teater och opera blomstrade under hans beskydd. Vi har historien.
Drottningholm Palace
During the 18th century the royal family and the nobility got influences from France and the ideas of the Enlightenment. This influenced the queen when she order the building of Drottningholm Palace, which was built after French models.
The French Rococo style had a strong influence on Swedish architecture and art during the the end of the 17th century and during the 18th century. During the reign of Gustav III, this led to the development of the Gustavian style, a Swedish variant of French Neoclassicism.
The king Gustav III was born in Stockholm in 1746, was a great Francophile and was inspired by French culture. His cultural policy, which included the founding of the Academy of Letters, the Academy of Music and the Academy of Painting and Sculptors, was strongly influenced by French ideals.

Karl XIV Johan, born Jean Baptist Bernadotte 26 January 1763 in Pau, Béarn, France, died 8 March 1844 at Stockholm Palace, became the King of Sweden and Norway from 1818. The present king Charles XVI Gustav is a direct descendant from Jean.
